Project Description
Download daily wallpapers images directly from bing.com

This small sub 100Kb application written in C# can download images from Bing.com and store in your local PC.
Just execute it everyday. (Or get help from Windows Scheduler)

Note: As of now this is not a background app. It runs, downloads and archives the image and exits.

Release 3.0 Update**
Download 7 images...
Now with UK, China and Canada, Germany as well.
A new BingHelper engine that makes it easier to add more countries in future easily.
BingDownloader 3.0 also displays the hot text from Bing Website and the image name/copyrights...
The executable size is also considerably smaller.

For Developers **

My source code in codeplex has gotten really bad...
Download folder BD3.0 in ChangeSet 26508
That contains the complete code. Just double click the sln and open it in VS 2008 Express Edition.
Ignore everything else...

Release 2.1 Update**
Download three Images.
Seems like Bing Japan has a slightly different image than US.
Now, BingDownloader downloads US, Japan and International images.

Release 2.0 Update**
This is huge... like Windows 95
Download both International Version and US Version bing images.
Much cleaner UI.

Release 1.2 Update**
This release fixes the GDI error issue.

Release 1.1 Update**
The app now creates files in "BingImages" folder with Pacific Date rather than the current system date.
This is because bing.com images change every 12:00 AM Pacific time.

Release 1.0 Update**
The app requires .NET Framework 3.5. I've recompiled the app in .NET Framework 2.0 and added that binary.
Please download that if you have issues running BingDownloader.

Hi,

I used to use a program called Bing4Free, but it was buggy as all hell. Then I discovered your program and it works great.

I would like to make a recommendation that the image files created during download has the name of the image, rather than the day month year and site as a naming convention.

It would make identifying the images easier.

Form alignments could go awry if the implementation of the framework is wrong.

In the code I don't manually move the controls.

The first and third point, I'll fix it up in the next major release.

The second point, I too don't know. I've never compiled a C# app on Linux. I would like to try it one day on my mac though.

I've looked to your code in order to understand why is not working ok in mono 2.4.2.3 on ubuntu.

The only real recommendation in order to work well on ubuntu is just change every where you have this:

"\BingImages\"

to this

Path.DirectorySeparatorChar + @"BingImages" + Path.DirectorySeparatorChar

Because in linux path use '/' instead of '\' and using Path.DirectorySeparatorChar it will work on linux and windows.

Second recommendation option, if you compile the code in linux with monodevelop the resources.resx have 2 problems:

1.

in linux path use the char '/' and here ..\res\icon.PNG you have the char '\', how to resolve this I don' t know :)

2. in linux paths and files are case sensitive unlike windows, and icon.PNG doesn't exists, what exists is icon.png

I changed this tree things compiled on monodevelop and the application work ok in ubuntu. :)

Version notifier should be a new dialog that shows the new version, what's new in this version and the URL.
Clicking on the URL should take the user directly to the download page.

en-SG is being used by MS for English (Singapore), and works fine on my box.

I thought about the DisplayName last night and agree with that the language isn’t important, so have just stripped out the country.

en-SG is not a valid culture. Moreover, the DisplayName property of a culture displays the language and then the country. The language I think is not important here...
